Events at Nuffield Road Allotments
Keep an eye on this calendar of events to see what’s happening over the coming months.
Want to get involved?
We’re always keen for plot holders to get more involved with the running of the allotment site. If you’re interested in helping out at some of the communal projects or to arrange social events please let us know.
Please email the committee to discuss ways in which you’d like to get involved.

Site maintenance and cleaning weekend- SKIP HIRE
There will be a skip for the collection and removal of allotment generated waste on site for the weekend of 26-27 April. This skip is for general rubbish, glass, wood and metal that accumulates every year both on the site and around the perimeter. The skip cannot accept green waste, rubble, household appliances, carpets or upholstery.
In conjunction with this effort there will be clearance of the area behind the store, involving brush clearance before any nesting and then a large digger to clean and level the ground. A rubbish collection effort from this area will be required and announced as required.

May Seedling Swap
Please bring any spare seedlings to outside the shop to swap with other plot holders. This will be a great way to try growing some new varieties, as well as sharing extra plants you don’t need. The event is free and if you don’t have anything to swap you can still come along and take some plants.
There will be tea, coffee and biscuits for you to enjoy while you are deciding what plants to take!
NRAS Spring Clean
On Sunday 28th April 10-12am the overgrown and debris- filled flowerbeds beside the store need to be cleared and dug. It would be good to fill these with flowers so ideas and plants will then be needed.
Grass cutting of all the shared areas.
There are repairs required for the inspection chambers that house our water connection. If anyone has bricklaying skills and could lead this piece of maintenance work, please let us know.
Tea and coffee will be available for all helpers.
We are looking forward to seeing you and involving everyone to help make quick work of this project and have the site looking tidy and clean.
NRAS Spring Clean
Well we have again collected an impressive pile of rubbish from the site and on past years' experience we should be able to get it all into the skip provided that it is carefully packed.
Please do not load anything into the skip until the team effort on Saturday.
The plan for Saturday 27th April 2-4pm is to have many hands to get all the rubbish from the bay and around the store into the skip.
Tea and coffee will be available for all helpers.
We are looking forward to seeing you and involving everyone to help make quick work of this project and have the site looking tidy and clean.

Apple Press Day
Celebrate the apple, one of Britain's best loved fruits. Come and join us for a community day celebrating the apple, with apple related activities like an apple press or heritage apple tasting.
Bring your own apples for the apple press.
This is a free event. Donations are welcome!

Communal Project: Clearing the front driveway and entrance
We would like volunteers to clear the front driveway and trim the trees back that are hanging over the road. We would like to work in two groups - one team inside the allotment site, and the other on the other side of the fence outside the allotment site. Hopefully with enough volunteers this will take less than 2 hours.

Summer pot-luck BBQ
We will have the society’s big barbecue fired up but if anyone else wants to bring their own barbecue feel free to do so.
Please bring a dish that can be shared if you can, plus some drinks to enjoy!

Tool sharpening and repair session (Tuesday)
Do you have any garden tools that need to be sharpened or repaired? If so come along on Tuesday 19 July from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. We’ll have an electric bench grinder, metal files and lots of other tools available to use. If you need advice on repairing something, please talk to Matt in advance in case you’ll need to order any materials or parts.
This is a great opportunity to give a new lease of life to your tools, wheelbarrows, tables and chairs, cold frames etc.
Drinks and biscuits will be available. The event is free to all members!

AGM 2022 & Social
Come and meet your fellow gardeners. Find out what is happening around the allotment site and have your say in how the site is organised.
More information to follow.

Litter collection and recycling weekend
General rubbish accumulates on site. Allotment-generated, non-compostable waste can be deposited in the bay near the main gate for this weekend only. All items that cannot be recycled will be removed with a skip during the week. This is a great opportunity to clear up around our site and maybe grab something useful that other allotment holders no longer need. Please come and help.

Communal Project: Cut back saplings in fence
We’d like volunteers to help us clear the unwanted saplings coming through the fence. We will work in two teams - one team inside the allotment site, and the other on the other side of the fence outside the allotment site. This will take place on Saturday 5 March (and Sunday if there is still work to be done).
